Those who served…
It is estimated that over 10,000 men and women have volunteered from Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding area with the Canadian Armed Forces. From the War of 1812, through to today’s present conflicts and peacekeeping missions, citizens of Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma region have dedicated their time and efforts to helping build a safe Canada for all to enjoy. They have fought with honour, glory, dignity, bravery, pride, and courage to safeguard our inherent rights and freedoms. And today, we thank them.
The Veterans Commemorative Monument project is designed to recognize all men and women who have volunteered to serve with the Canadian Armed Forces, Allied Nations, Merchant Navy, RCMP, Canadian Coast Guard or Police Officer Officers who have served in an Area Of Operations. The monument demonstrates our gratitude to those family members, friends, neighbours, and citizens who have returned home from service, and those who continue to serve. It will provide a site in Sault Ste. Marie where they, their family and friends, and the public can go to view, sit, and reflect on their contributions to helping build today’s nation, and their involvement in the Canadian Armed Forces.
The Veterans Commemorative Monument will cement the legacy of Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding area’s Canadian Armed Forces in stone.
In times of need our service men and women bravely volunteered to serve us. Now it is our time to thank and recognize their service.
