Rules of Eligibility

Whose name can be honoured?

Any person who has met the Department of National Defence’s (DND) professional occupational classification requirements, is/has honourably served in the Regular Forces, Primary Reserves, Cadet Administration and Training Services (COATS), and is/was a member of the Cadets Instructors Cadre (CIC), Canadian Rangers, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in a theatre of operation, or any Municipal Police Officer who has served in an theatre of operations, Merchant Navy and Allied Veterans. Consideration will be given to other special connections as approved by the committee.

Veterans Affairs Canada and National Defence now recognize all former Canadian Forces members as Veterans as long as they have met DND's professional occupational classification requirements and have been released from the Forces with an honourable discharge. This status applies to Reserve Force members who meet these requirements as well. Former members of the Allied forces are considered Allied Veterans residing in Canada.

  1. Any person who has joined the Canadian Armed Forces Regular, Navy, Army, or  Air Force and has qualified in their occupational classification and who is serving or has honorably served in the Canadian Armed Forces
     
  2. Any person who has joined the Reserve Force, primary reserve (P Res) including one of  (Navy Reserve, Army Reserve, Air Reserve, the Health Services Reserves and the Legal Reserves) and has qualified in their occupational classification and who is serving or has honorably served in the Canadian Armed Forces.
     
  3. Any person who has joined the Reserve Force, Cadet Administration and Training Services (COATS) and is a member of the Cadets Instructors Cadre (CIC) has qualified in their occupational classification and who is  serving or has honorably served in the Cadet Instructor Cadre.
     
  4. Any person who has joined the Reserve Force, Canadian Rangers and has qualified in their occupational classification and who is serving or has honorably served in the Canadian Rangers.
     
  5. Any person who has joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has qualified in their occupational classification and has served with a CAF unit in a theatre of operation or as a formed CAF unit, or as a Peace Officer in a Special Duty Area or on a Special Duty Operation and who is serving or has honorably served.
     
  6. Any person who served in the Merchant Navy during war time.
     
  7. Any person who has joined the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) and has qualified in their occupational classification and who is serving or has honorably served in the CCG.
     
  8. Any other person may be considered for inclusion provided a connection to one of the above or for reasons of special consideration (as detailed in the application) should show good and proper cause to be included.
